Trini Chicken Pows (Chinese Steamed Buns) Recipe
Yield: 12 Pows
INGREDIENTS
For Dough:
Warm Water - 1 cup
Granulated Sugar - 1/2 cup
Dry Active Yeast - 1 tbsp
Vegetable Oil - 2 tbsp
All-Purpose Flour - 3 1/4 cups
Salt - 1 tsp
For Filling:
Sesame Oil - 1 tbsp
Minced Chicken - 1 lb
Minced Garlic - 1 tbsp
Minced Ginger - 1 tbsp
All-Purpose Chinese Seasoning - 1 tbsp
Soy Sauce - 1 tbsp
Hoisin Sauce - 2 to 3 tbsp
Sugar - 1 tbsp
METHOD
Add sugar, yeast and oil to warm water.
Stir until sugar and yeast is dissolved.
Let sit for 10 minutes.
Mix together flour and salt.
Add water mixture to flour mixture.
Knead until a smooth dough forms (8-10 minutes).
Place into a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth.
Allow to rest and rise for 1 hour.
Heat a sauté pan over medium heat.
Add oil.
Once oil is heated, add all remaining ingredients for the filling.
Stir continuously until fully cooked.
Set aside.
Once the hour has passed, divide dough into 12 equal pieces.
Roll each piece into a smooth ball.
Cover balls with a damp cloth and allow to rest for 10 minutes.
Roll each ball into a 3” disc.
Fill with 1 to 2 tbsps of filling.
Seal each ball as illustrated in the video.
Place each Pow onto a piece of wax paper of greased piece of foil.
Cover and allow to rest for an additional 10 minutes.
Use this time to prep your steamer.
Steam Pows for 15 minutes.
